Award-winning songwriter and producer Diego Barbosa blends Soul, R&B, Funk, Pop, and Latin influences into music that moves both heart and body. Inspired by artists such as Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, D’Angelo, Carlos Santana, John Mayer, Eric Clapton, and Earth, Wind & Fire, he crafts rich arrangements and memorable melodies that fuse groove with emotional depth.
Born in Brazil and raised in Australia, Diego began his musical journey in orchestral and symphonic bands as a trumpet player before expanding into guitar, piano, and bass. His early years were shaped by jazz ensembles, choirs, and musical theatre, where he starred as the lead in his school’s production of All Shook Up.
At university, Diego developed his voice as both performer and songwriter, fronting the R&B/Soul/Funk band Neptune and performing across Brisbane, including at the RAW International Arts Showcase in 2019. After which becoming the lead guitarist of emerging Reggae/R&B band Foreign Kingdom, with a highlight performance at WE AWWN GC festival in 2021.
Now focused primarily on writing, arranging, and producing, Diego’s work continues to evolve behind the scenes. His debut single Jezebel placed 3rd in the Indie International Songwriting Contest, and he is actively collaborating with emerging artists to create distinctive, genre-blending records.
